Dusty Rose
Wispy and dreamlike, here's something you don't find every day. Carved at the back, this apple juice button appears to house a spellbound rose. Sections of finely carved webs stem from the rose to the edge of the button like strands of delicate gossamer. What's more, the carved details are dusted in a light coating of rose-colored paint. I borrowed a loupe from a coin-collector friend of mine to confirm that the paint is indeed there, though it's wearing thin and might flake off in the next decade or so. A fragile relic from the 1930's, this exquisite, Bakelite button is the promise of springtime.
