Big Rockin' Rockers!

 

 

Nothing's jollier than Bakelite rocker buttons. These rotund and colorful trinkets came in a variety of sizes, but size is difficult to convey in a photograph. Wider than the previously shown rockers in my collection, these are a slightly bigger style. The zippy tones range between black, red, green, dark brown, maroon, creamed corn and apple juice. The shapes vary too. Several are thick semicircles and two of these rockers are wedges. I've been collecting Bakelite buttons for many years; and the excitement of finding a vintage rocker button never gets old. These two-tone merrymakers go back to the 1930's and I think they're the perkiest and most joyful buttons ever made. Rock on!

Rockers!

Last year (throughout all of 2018) I posted a variety of rocker buttons at least once a month. It's been a while, but here's a pair of Bakelite rockers that I haven't shared up until now. The outer layer is apple juice, while the inner dots are pure chocolate. Rocker buttons are probably my favorite type of Bakelite button. They sport a playful vibe with their gamesome geometry. From the 1920's.

Rocker Logs

All this year I've been posting Bakelite rocker buttons at least once a month, some of them wedge shaped, some half cylindrical, many solid colors and many transparent—but none quite like these elongated rockers in deep butterscotch (verging on orange) and topped in creamed corn. Rarest of the rocker variety, I call these "rocker logs" and have honestly never seen another button like them. Going back to the 1920's, these old toggle-length beauties are speckled with patina while retaining their olden-day gleam. For all the rocker buttons I've shared this year, I do have several rockers that I haven't shown and will be posting them sparingly next year. That said, 2018 marks the only full year of monthly rocker buttons posted on this blog. They're among my favorite pieces of Bakelite.

Rockin' Rockers

Among my favorite rockers, this sporty set of three boasts creamed corn Bakelite with a black Bakelite spot in the middle. Rocker buttons never disappoint with their curved design and two-tone vivacity. I love putting these together and seeing how the contrasting colors "pop" so stylishly and with a jaunty art deco effect. From the world of 1930's charm & chutzpah—rocker buttons rock!
