Edelweiss

Various types of flower buttons have shown up on this blog over the years, but never an edelweiss until now. And what a curious button. Several features are of note on this delicate blossom: First of all, look at the lifelike shapes of the petals with their assortment of wispy forms. Truly, this button resembles a painting by Van Gogh. Secondly, the Bakelite is a pale shade of green that I don't find very often in my collecting. I call this color "lime juice" since it resembles apple juice Bakelite with a bright trace of viridescence (and that's a fancy word for green). See the swirling of the lime color in several of the petals. I like to study buttons in depth and this one never stops intriguing me. Thirdly, it looks like the carved center of this flower was daubed with a bold smear of yellow paint. Made in the 1930's, this vintage edelweiss is a lovely specimen of many hues and facets. Just extraordinary.
