Every
now and then I find buttons with matching buckles. This particular set
is made of apple juice Bakelite and goes back to the 1930's. What's
more, each piece is carved at the underside with a snazzy design that
resembles sprouts of grass. Black paint was applied generously to the
bases of these buttons, but not where they were carved. The effect is
dark and rather magical—for
a sort of midnight-in-the-jungle look. Owing to the ravages of time,
the paint job on these pieces show a bit of wear, especially at the
edges of the buckle where you can see a few spots of paint have been
lost. Nonetheless, these buttons & buckle still retain their chic and
shadowy allure. Stay tuned for more painted apple juice buttons. I'm
going to post a full week of them next month.
