A couple of months ago, I bought four sensational Bakelite glitter buttons from my friend, Doreen. Here are two of those buttons, chunky and divine. Made of crystal-clear, apple juice Bakelite, one of them resembles Saturn with its wraparound band made of rootbeer Bakelite. The other button looks like a festive football with inset stripes, also made of rootebeer Bakelite. Look into the apple juice Bakelite and get drenched in a downpour of golden glitter! The sunlight really cooperated with this photo—as the gilded flecks look like pennies from heaven. These are Gatsby-era buttons. Wildly flamboyant and celebratory of another place and time.
