Fancy Schmancy! This huge coat button in licorice Bakelite looks like something shipped over from Istanbul or Tehran. Although the ornate escutcheon is the obvious focal point, be sure to notice the surrounding carvings on the Bakelite, which perfectly accentuate the golden frills of the metal top piece. This buttons takes me straight to Morocco. American-made, it dates back to the 1930's.
