Fashionable Cookies

Cookies, anyone? Here's a large and lovely pair of cookie buttons in creamed corn with bright red stripes. These buttons tested positive for Bakelite and if they don't go back to the 1930's, they may very well go back to the 1920's. Picture them on a bubblegum-chewing flapper at the rollicking height of the Jazz Age. Today's the last day I'll be posting a painting by Tamara de Lempicka (my favorite artist if it hasn't become obvious). This alpine work is titled, St. Moritznamed after the Swiss village known for its luxury ski resorts that were especially popular for their bob runs and bob races. Painted in 1929, the subject in the painting looks to me like Jordan Baker, straight out of The Great Gatsby.
