Of all the Bakelite toggle buttons in my collection, this art deco trio is probably my all-time favorite. Truly illustrative of the ostentatious twenties, each toggle is a red cylinder embedded in an apple juice base. The red Bakelite pieces were carved with a design reminiscent of palm fronds. The apple juice Bakelite is shimmery and elegant—a perfect way to frame and uphold the red focal points. I bought these buttons twenty years ago at a now closed antique shop in Greenwich Village.
