Patina can have all kinds of effects on Bakelite. In the case of these five buttons, the original creamed corn color can be seen at the lighter edges of the carved details. The darker areas are where the patina has changed the color of the button to a deeper butterscotch tone. On account of these dual colors, I'm calling this a creamed corn button with butterscotch notes. One of my favorite features on old Bakelite buttons is the presence of a dominant patina that changes or accentuates the original coloring of the button. These vintage art deco buttons—with their snazzy arrangement of geometric angles—come from an antique store in Leavenworth, Kansas. Circa 1928.
