Black with Metallic Lace

My friend Doreen acquired this button last year and I was lucky enough to strike a deal and pocket this major find. As a collector of Bakelite buttons, I keep an eye out for the strange and the unusual. This button fits that description with four lacy prongs crawling up the sides of licorice black Bakelite. The prongs connect underneath the button and hence the button rests in a cradle of metallic gauze. And as if those metal frills weren't enough, the Bakelite is carved with a distinctive design that dates back to the 1930's. A dark beauty held captive in tarnished nickel. Isn't this button extravagant?
